Local Rainwater Harvest Project

This week we were pleased to find out that we have been selected to be one of 25 participants in a region-wide Rainwater Harvesting Project. This project provides subsidized rain barrels (1150 litres) and a harvesting collection kit (pump, etc), and will be monitored by the region for the next 3 years. The goal is to see what impact harvesting local rainwater can have on the municipal system, how these rainwater harvesting kits work for the scale of single-family homes in our region, and to look at implementing further steps toward this kind of rainwater harvesting on a larger scale. For homeowners it gives us the chance to conserve water & save money by using local rainwater in our gardens, learn more about using these collectors with the support of the region, and have these systems on our properties for continued use after the three year project is over. More on this topic as the system gets installed (end of June) and we start to monitor it.
