Week 12 - Final week of Thinking Tree Art & Nature Program

Week 12 - Thinking Tree Art & Nature Program

Weather: cold with some snow on the ground, and beautiful sunshine & frost

Lunch made today: Homemade pizzas in the outdoor wood-fired cob oven

Art lessons today:
  • final charcoal sketching activity
  • folding paper window stars with origami paper
  • botanical lantern making with our dried leaves/flowers (from plant presses we made 
    Other highlights today:
    • outdoor cooperative games
    • opening our Thinking Tree "mailbox" filled with wonderful letters and drawings
    • personalized veggie pizzas for lunch 
    • final good-byes, it's been a great 12 weeks together

    Week 11 - Thinking Tree Art & Nature Program

    Weather: cold with some snow on the ground, and a few glimpses of sunshine

    Soup made today: Carrot Coconut Curry (a group favourite!)


    Art lessons today:
    • sketching self-portraits using mirrors 
    • salt art prints
    • Waldorf-inspired wintery candle drawings
    Other projects today:
    • beeswax candle-dipping done outdoors around a big table
    • doll making continued
    • needle-felting continued
    • letter-writing for our group "mailbox", on handmade paper
    Other highlights today:
      • warming up with cooperative and running games in the community garden
      • learning a few new songs during our opening and closing circles
      • singing in time to the beeswax candle-dipping to keep our rhythm going!
      • shared mint tea by the fire

      Week 9 - Thinking Tree Art & Nature Program

      Weather: snow is here!  a light layer, but still enough for a snowball fight

      Soup made by the kids: Sweet potato leek


      Art lessons today:
      • sketching pinecones (not as easy as it sounds!)
      • trying out white charcoal on black paper, for sketching our outdoor wintery scene
      Herbal project today:
      • pine needle-rosehip tea brewed over the fire
      • wood block postcard holders (sanded and coated with beeswax polish)

      Other highlights:

      • a snowball fight during free time (for those who wishes to participate!)
      • back by popular demand, honey-baked apples for lunchtime dessert
      •  doll making continued (and some completed!)
      • fire-building with the kids
