Preserve - Newest Issue of Taproot Magazine

If you have not yet found Taproot Magazine, it's time to check it out!  Focusing on gardening, farming, making, cooking, dreaming, with outstanding artwork, photography, essays and poetry, recipes & lots of DIY projects, this magazine has it all.

Each time a new issue arrives in our mailbox (yes, a real paper copy magazine to read with cup of tea in hand) my 8 year old daughter and I wrestle to see who gets to flip through it first.  She looks for the paper dolls, colouring pages, farm animal photography.  I admire the artwork, food photography, latest recipes and stories.  My husband admits he eventually makes his way through all the articles and stories too (even if it does give him pangs for a larger farm, some day).  But the magazine makes us feel connected to a larger community worldwide of those trying to live honest, simple, handmade, heart-filled lives.  We feel renewed in our efforts here on our little urban homestead to keep mending, baking, fermenting, unschooling, gardening, wild-harvesting, healing, and so forth - adding new insights and inspiration to what we already do in our day to day life.

In the current issue, check out our article - Homegrown Sprouts!  You'll learn how to grow sprouts at home, and get recipes for super sprout salad, and morning greens smoothie, plus learn a little more about how and why we love to sprout.

WILD - Taproot Magazine now available!

We are so pleased to mention that we'll have an article featured in the upcoming Taproot Magazine, Issue 14::WILD.  We encourage you to check out this magazine if you have not already come across it.  It's a beautiful visual magazine, filled with lush photography, gorgeous unique artwork, delicious recipes, soulful articles, and practical hand skills, all along the themes of homesteading, homeschooling and community living.  We always eagerly look forward to getting our copy of this magazine in the mail and anticipate each new issue.  Our daughter looks forward to being the first to find it in the mailbox and peruse the photos and artwork, as well as asking me to read her the editorial "story".   Look for our article in this issue about making your own permaculture seedballs and "rewilding our landscape".

Article in Pathways to Family Wellness Magazine

I recently had an article published in the winter issue of Pathways to Family Wellness magazine.  The article talks about herbs for pregnancy and post-partum use, how to involve older siblings in preparing for the arrival of a new child by including them in special herbal preparations (growing, harvesting, drying, preparing salves and teas), and also includes some useful recipes...Check it out here: http://pathwaystofamilywellness.org/references/references_28.html

Article in Natural Life Magazine, Sept -Oct issue

I'm pleased to have another article publised in this current Sept-Oct issue of Natural Life Magazine.  The article focusses on herbs for pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum, including how to involve your children in home herbal medicine making.  I will be writing for Natural Life again for their spring 2011 issue, discussing how to start a backyard herbal medicinal tea garden and (re)empowering ourselves with herbal healing knowledge.  Check out the magazine here, and consider subscribing to this wonderful Canadian-based magazine about homeschooling, green living, sustainability, and natural parenting.
